Who a 1.5 kW Solar System suits

A 1.5 kW system is a small array of 4 panels. It suits a granny flat, a holiday cabin, a small unit with limited roof, or a home where daytime power use is light and the goal is to cover the basics: fridge, lights, a washing machine run in the middle of the day.

Be honest with yourself about usage before you commit to this size. A typical Port Macquarie home uses 15 to 30 kWh a day, and this package makes about 6 to 6 kWh on an average day. If you have the roof space, a larger system usually costs little more per kilowatt installed and pays back faster. Our system sizing guide walks through the maths, or we can size it for you at a free site assessment.

Four panels is enough to run a fridge, lighting and a modest daytime load in a granny flat or holiday cabin.

What is included

  • 4 Canadian Solar 440 W N-type black frame panels, 1.76 kW of panel capacity in total
  • One 5 kW Goodwe EH hybrid inverter, battery ready from day one
  • 25 year product and performance warranty on the panels
  • 10 year warranty on the inverter
  • Electricity retailer metering arranged by us, including the paperwork for your feed-in tariff
  • Production monitoring through the smartphone app, so you can see what the system makes every day
  • Design, installation and grid connection by our own in-house team, with no subcontractors

Canadian Solar’s 440 W panels are the black frame N-type modules we fit across the Mid North Coast. Read our Canadian Solar panel review for how they compare. The Goodwe inverter is covered in our Goodwe inverter review.

How much power a 1.5 kW Solar System makes in Port Macquarie

On the Mid North Coast a well sited system averages about 4 kWh per kilowatt per day across the year. For this package that is roughly 6 to 6 kWh a day, or around 2,200 kWh a year, with more in summer and less in winter. A north facing roof does best, but east and west facing arrays still perform well here and can spread production across the morning and afternoon.

Allow about 8 square metres of clear roof for the 4 panels, plus clearance from roof edges, vents and anything that throws shade. Roof pitch, orientation and any shading are all checked at the free site assessment, and we design the layout to suit your roof rather than a standard drawing.

Adding a battery later

The Goodwe EH is a hybrid inverter, which means a compatible battery can be connected to it later without replacing the inverter. If you want to start with panels and add storage when the budget or the rebates line up, this is the package that makes that simple. Federal and NSW battery rebates are available now on eligible batteries, and we can quote the system with or without one. See our solar batteries page and the rebate guide.

Rebates and finance

The federal solar rebate, paid as small scale technology certificates, is applied as a point of sale discount on every system we install, so the quote you receive already has it taken off. Finance is available through Brighte with $0 interest options and repayment terms from 6 to 84 months, so a system can be paid off from the savings it makes. Details are on our payment options and finance page.

Common questions

How many panels are in a 1.5 kW solar system?

This package uses 4 Canadian Solar 440 W panels for 1.76 kW of panel capacity, on a 5 kW Goodwe EH hybrid inverter. Allow about 8 square metres of clear roof.

How much power does a 1.5 kW solar system produce per day?

In Port Macquarie, about 6 to 6 kWh on an average day across the year, or around 2,200 kWh a year. Summer days produce well above that and winter days below it.

Is a 1.5 kW system big enough for my home?

It depends on how much power you use during the day. A typical Port Macquarie home uses 15 to 30 kWh a day, so a 1.5 kW system covers a light user well and a heavier user partly. If you have the roof, a 6.6 kW system on the same inverter is usually the better value. We size it properly at the free site assessment.

How long does installation take?

Most residential systems are installed in a day by our own team, with grid connection and metering arranged with your retailer afterwards. We handle the approvals, the paperwork and the rebate.
