Living near the water shortens the life of rooftop hardware if the wrong parts go up. Marine-grade rail, stainless fixings and corrosion-rated clamps are standard on our coastal installs, and we place inverters and isolators where the house shelters them rather than wherever is convenient.

Storms are worth planning for as well. Wind ratings determine how the array is clamped, and correct earthing and surge protection keep a nearby strike out of your switchboard. A battery with a backup circuit then covers the hours afterwards, while the network is still down.

Once a system is running, monitoring tells you whether it is doing what it should. We set it up so you can see it on a phone, and so we can look at it ourselves before deciding whether a visit is needed.
