Sun is not the limiting factor on this stretch of coast. What varies is how a household uses power, and in the Great Lakes that varies more than most places. Permanent residents, retirees at home all day, holiday houses busy for six weeks a year and rented out for the rest, and businesses that peak hard over summer all want different systems.

Off-grid enquiries are common from the properties outside town, and they are a genuinely different job. Nothing about that work gets handed to a subcontractor, which matters because an off-grid system is one you will need supported for years.

Corrosion is the single biggest long-term risk on a coastal roof, and it is invisible for the first few years. We use aluminium rail with stainless fixings, keep dissimilar metals apart, seal every roof penetration properly and specify enclosures rated for the environment. Inverters go in shade and out of the salt wind, which sounds minor until you compare two systems after a decade.

Strata and unit blocks come up regularly around here, and they bring their own questions about metering, common property and who owns what on the roof. We have worked through those arrangements before and can talk you through the options before anything goes to a committee. Commercial premises around town are the same story with different paperwork, and we handle that end as well.

A house that is empty for months needs different thinking. Production carries on whether anyone is there or not, so the value comes from either exporting well or storing for the weeks the place is occupied. A battery still earns its keep if the property is rented out between visits, because the tenants use power in the evening the same as anyone.

Monitoring is what stops a problem going unnoticed. If an inverter faults in March on an empty house, nobody finds out until the bill arrives or the next visit. With monitoring on your phone, you know the day it happens and we can often diagnose it without anyone driving anywhere.
