Plenty of homes in this valley already have solar, much of it fitted years ago and now sitting on an inverter near the end of its life. Adding a battery or replacing an ageing inverter often does more for a household than starting over with a whole new array.

The Bellinger Valley has a mild, humid climate and good sun for most of the year, which makes it straightforward country for rooftop solar. We do two distinct kinds of job here. First-time installs on homes that never got around to it, and upgrades to systems that have already spent a decade on the roof.

An upgrade is not always a full replacement. If the panels are still performing and the mounting is sound, we can often keep the array and change the inverter, or add AC-coupled storage alongside it. Where the old system genuinely is not worth keeping, we will say that too, and we will explain why rather than just quoting a new one.

New systems use Trina, Jinko, REC or Tindo panels with Fronius, Sungrow, GoodWe, Sigenergy or SMA inverters, and Sigenergy, Sungrow, BYD or GoodWe batteries. Everything is installed by our own licensed employees, with over 20 years and more than 5,000 systems behind the way we work. The rebate paperwork stays on our desk.

Housing through the valley leans older. Weatherboard and fibro homes with modest roof areas, some with additions that broke the original roof line into several small planes, and a good number of properties on larger blocks outside the built-up parts. Each of those needs a different panel layout, and small roofs in particular benefit from module-level control so a single shaded panel does not cost you the whole string.

Because the drive up is a long one, we bring everything for the job and finish it in a single visit wherever the scope allows. That includes any switchboard work, the meter arrangements with Essential Energy, and setting up monitoring so you can see what the system is doing from your phone before we drive off.

A battery retrofit is the most common upgrade we quote. If your existing inverter is a modern hybrid, storage can often be added directly to it. If it is an older string inverter, we AC-couple a battery alongside it, which leaves the original system doing its job and adds storage without touching the array.

Sizing matters more than brand. A battery that is too small never covers the evening, and one that is too large sits half empty most of the year. We look at your actual interval data where it is available, or a few bills where it is not, and pick a capacity that matches how the house behaves.
