Walara G4P specs and what they mean in practice

The Walara G4P replaces the Karra range’s PERC cells with N-Type TOPCon cells, a technology also used by many imported panels.

Efficiency and temperature performance

The 440W datasheet lists a temperature coefficient of -0.30 per cent per degree Celsius for maximum power. This describes the change in output as cell temperature rises above the laboratory reference temperature, rather than the change in outdoor air temperature.

For example, at a cell temperature of 65°C, that coefficient implies about 12 per cent less power than at 25°C, with other test conditions unchanged: 40 × 0.30% = 12%. This is an illustrative calculation, not a forecast of daily generation on a Port Macquarie roof. Coefficient source

The datasheet lists 87.4 per cent output at year 25 under the limited performance warranty.

That is a warranty threshold, not a promise of the electricity your whole system will generate.

Understanding how efficient solar panels really are helps separate the panel rating from shading, roof orientation and inverter losses.

Build quality and coastal suitability

The 440W technical sheet lists a 35mm frame and mechanical test loads of 5,400 Pa at the front and 2,400 Pa at the rear. These are test loads, not an automatic wind-rating approval for every roof. Mounting design and the installation manual still matter for exposed Mid North Coast homes.

The sheet specifies 3.2mm front glass but does not identify the module as dual-glass.

An all-black 475G4P-BL option is listed in Tindo’s panel range. Although the cells are described as bifacial, that alone does not establish a useful rear-side energy gain for a finished module mounted close to a roof. Compare the complete module design and the expected output for the proposed mounting position.

440W or 475W for a small roof?

The 475W G4P-BL datasheet lists a 1910 × 1133mm panel weighing 23.5kg.

The 440W sheet lists 1722 × 1133mm and 21kg.

A layout drawn with the correct dimensions can reveal whether the taller panel blocks a row beside a roof obstruction.

• Compare total array watts after setbacks and access clearances, not just watts per panel.
• Ask for the roof layout showing shade sources and the proposed panel orientation.
• Have the installer check roof loading and compatible mounting hardware for the selected module.

CHOICE testing results

CHOICE has reviewed the Tindo Karra-410G2H, an older 410W PERC model. Its public page identifies the model and specifications, while the detailed test scores are available to members.

In its June 2025 account of the CHOICE test, Tindo reports a 92 per cent Expert Rating and measured output of 417W for the 410W Karra panel. Tindo says it led the 15-panel comparison and was one of two recommended panels. These figures come from Tindo’s account of the test.

The CHOICE result belongs to the Karra model. It should not be presented as a test of the Walara G4P, or as proof that a newer cell technology must perform better in an independent test.

The value case for Tindo goes beyond raw panel performance. Here is what actually differs:

1. Support for Australian manufacturing. ARENA announced $34.5 million in funding in August 2025 to expand annual production from 20MW to 180MW. A feasibility study for a possible 1GW factory is part of the project; that larger factory is not confirmed operating capacity.
2. Warranty service on shore. Tindo has an Australian support team. Its $1,000 Worry-Free Warranty offer adds a conditional payment for eligible replacement claims. Registration and the base warranty limitations matter.
3. Local final manufacture. The completed panels are made in Adelaide, although components still travel from overseas. That changes the supply chain, but a lower total carbon footprint needs a lifecycle comparison rather than an assumption based on the factory address.
4. Field testing in Australia. Tindo reports ongoing operation at the Desert Knowledge Australia Solar Centre in Alice Springs. For your home, ask for the technical evidence that matches the panel model and local exposure.

For current Tindo solar panel prices, ask for a dated quote covering the exact Walara model and installation. ARENA describes Tindo as a premium product, but that does not establish a fixed dollar or percentage premium for your home.

Online prices can refer to a single panel, a wholesale pallet or a fully installed system. Check GST, freight and the panel generation before comparing them; an older Karra price is not a Walara G4P quote.

• Ask for the full panel model, wattage and quantity, with the inverter model listed separately.

Tindo’s published August 2024 N-Type consumer warranty, clause 7.2, assigns excess labour and transport charges at sites more than 50km from an Australian capital city CBD to the purchaser, subject to statutory rights. That document defines its covered modules as G3, so obtain the applicable G4P warranty with your quote rather than assuming an older document settles your coverage.

For Mid North Coast buyers, ask Tindo to confirm any regional charges in writing. The Premium Warranty terms retain the exclusions and limitations of the applicable base warranty; the cash offer should not be read as an automatic waiver of those charges.

Under the published Premium Warranty offer, the original purchaser must buy from 1 November 2025 onwards and register within 60 days of installation. A valid claim must require module replacement.

Tindo was founded in 2011. Its company history records the ownership change in 2017, when Glenn Morelli took over. The factory has continued to develop since then, but historical continuity cannot guarantee future warranty support.

The ARENA factory expansion announcement is evidence of funding for a defined manufacturing project. It is not government insurance for a homeowner’s panel warranty, and the proposed gigafactory remains a separate development step.

No manufacturer warranty is risk-free over its full term. Keep the legal supplier details, invoice, serial numbers and warranty version with your system records so there is a clear starting point if you need support later.
